Description: From the desk of KSCartist - Tim Gagnon aka "The Patch Guy." NASA Astronauts Honoring those who Served in Uniform In the ten years I worked with Space Shuttle and ISS crews to help design their mission patches, I developed friendships with many of them that served in different branches of the military. This work allowed me to also connect with former astronauts that flew during the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Skylab programs. It was those men who prompted me to create a set of Military Astronauts commemorative patches and consult with them on the designs. I gifted the astronauts with the appropriate patch for their service branch and the response was overwhelmingly positive. I was particularly thrilled to gift one of these to Senator John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth. But the highest compliment came in 2016 when an ISS astronaut asked me for a complete set to fly with him in space. When he returned he presented them to Walter Reed Hospital for display. I am offering the last of these original patches created in 2013. When they are gone, there are no plans tore-release them. U.S. Marine Corps AstronautsDescription:This emblem for the U.S. Marine Corps Astronauts is inspired by the official emblem. I depict the eagle perched on the Earth as seen from space. The Moon at the top pays tribute to the efforts of USMC astronauts during the Apollo program. The orbital element commemorates the first American to orbit the Earth - Col. John Glenn. The icons on the bottom border depict the programs Marine Corps astronauts have participated in, including Mercury, Apollo, Skylab, ASTP, Space Shuttle and ISS Expeditions. The border was made to look like rope in tribute to their naval legacy.
