Description: NASA Apollo Lunar Module Inconel Meteoroid and Thermal Black Body Shield with Kapton Tape Residue. GRUMMAN Part Number LDW 280-23577-17 The Apollo LM deployed a High Strength Aerospace Inconel Shield designed to protect the Astronauts, the Aluminum Support Structure and Delicate Electronics from the Sun's Radiation and Micro-Meteorite Strikes while Deployed in Space and on the Moon's Surface. This Inconel sheet has be surface treated as a Flat Black Body Radiation Protector while the inner surface has a Flat Gray surface treatment. This Artifact served a multitude of purposes designed to protect the LM with a minimum of weight and maximum durability. Basic Dimensions: 1.9 inches by 1.6 inches There is a RED Grumman Certification Stamp shaped "G" containing the number 1010 on the Master Reference piece shown for "reference only." This Apollo item originally belonged to Charles H. Bell, a world class collector of Space Hardware from 1965 until 2000. He purchased this artifact from the Kennedy Space Center, Ransom Road Facility during the 1970's, after the Apollo Program ended.
