Tremblay, took a photography job at Ford New Holland. But the self-taught Tremblay had long since applied pencil to paper. Her first delicately detailed pastels and watercolors appeared in the 1920s.A lifelong student, she went on to study and teach art at many schools and workshops. She illustrated irons and purses for department store ads in Detroit. In the 1940s, the USO commissioned her to do portraits of servicemen. In the 1970s, she experimented with black-outlined blocks of color.Tremblay once helped solve a murder by sketching the suspect from witnesses' descriptions. When she got to Lancaster, she told a reporter 17 years ago, "I got lost a few times, but everything was so interesting, I'd pull over and start painting."Tremblay, who was often commissioned to paint pictures of people's homes, sometimes carried a camera to record potential subjects. Her trademarks were colorful Lancaster farm scenes and historic sites, said Lancaster Galleries co-owner Mike Heberlein, who has long sold Tremblay's art.Tremblay was a signature Pennsylvania Watercolor Society member and belonged to the Old Bergen Art Guild. She was a lifetime member of the Lancaster County Art Association in Strasburg. She was an active art exhibitor into her 90s, according to Duffy. She was prolific, said Carol Herr, gallery director for the art association."Everybody loved her work," Herr said. "She put something in pretty much every show we had."Tremblay was known for sharing tips with young artists and for donating original watercolors to benefit local charities.During her long life, Tremblay won numerous awards and studied with acclaimed watercolorists James E. McBurney, John Pike, Tom Hill, Don Stone, Milford Zornes and Tony Van Hasselt.A world traveler loyal to her sketchbook, she captured street cameos of Germany and St. Thomas and even penciled in the scene from a bamboo raft in Jamaica.Tremblay attended Bay City Junior College in Michigan at age 15.She earned a bachelor of science degree and art life certificate from Central State Michigan University, visited foreign countries and earned a living as an artist at a time when most women stayed home.
