We pride ourselves at Oakapple Designs as having permission to take moulds directly from the medieval carvings found upon the misericords and choir stalls from within the Cathedrals and Churches in the UK. Our moulds and production techniques capture and reproduce all the fine detail from the original carvings to produce a very high-quality piece with all the authenticity from the original carving. Taken from the medieval carvings found on the misericords and supporters in the choir stalls of Beverley Minster. This unique set of carvings seemingly done by the same craftsmen during a short period, they seem to depict aspects and values of everyday life. They show scenes with both a sense of humour and teachings of moral importance especially from the view of the Catholic Church. This carving is of a monkey playing the bagpipes with a large bear performing to the music. Monkeys were intelligent animals with a sense of mimicry; bears are large and powerful creatures. Interpretation would suggest that it is the small laymen controlling the powerful authorities without their knowledge of being manipulated. Taken directly from the original carving this reproduction captures all the fine detail produced by the master craftsmen that carved the original.
