Description: Finest MUSEUM COLECTIBLE MARINERS COMPASS QUILT. This mid 19th quilt is one of our favorite patterns and hard to execute. Look at the tiny mariners compass inside the main compass. All HAND PIECED and the materials point to the 1850 period. There has been some popping in the rust colored material. Also a couple of snags on the fringe(see last photos) The size of this quilt without fringe is 92" by 78" .The fringe measures 3". Typically this is the acidic dyes that were used in certain prints. The quilting is fabulous and all hand done at 10 tiny stitches per inch. These tiny black prints are gone now. There has been fringe sewn on this quilt by hand maybe during the victorian era 1880 on three sides. I have not laundered this quilt. It seems clean enough and there is just a bit of light tan patena in the fold lines.Comes from a very old local family estate. The last name of the owners were written on the back corner of the quilt. Great addition to your growing collection! Take a look at our other clean quilts in our store. We sell only clean American made antique quilts! Anyone can sell quilts, but few can professionally hand launder them as we do! Check our store for hundreds of quilts @ Buy-It-Now prices and feel free to make us reasonable offers! Be sure to read "Why We Hand Launder Quilts" located under our store heading.
