VINTAGE POST WORLD WAR II ERA GERMAN LUFTWAFFE HISTORY MESSERSCHMITT MESSERSCHMITT Me-262 THE VERY FIRST ACTIVE JET FIGHTER FROM "MPC" AKA MULTIPLE PRODUCTS CO. AKA MULTIPLE PLASTICS CO. AKA MULTIPLE TOYMAKERS CO. Multiple Products Corporation (commonly known as "MPC") was also called Multiple Toymakers. The company produced a large variety of toys (mostly made of plastic) over their years in business, including: playsets and figures (many fondly remember their figures that were nick-named "ring-hands", as they had small holes in their hands for which to hold accessories like guns, tools, etc.), dollhouse material, character toys, toy guns, vehicles, games, and more. MPC AIRPLANES CHECKLISTAS OF 1999PRICES HAVE DOUBLED+FREE COPYWITH PURCHASE This auction is for an MPC miniature plastic airplane from the 1960's... MESSERSCHMITT Me-262 The Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe ("Swallow") was the world's first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft. Design work started before World War II began but engine problems prevented the aircraft from attaining operational status with the Luftwaffe until mid-1944. Compared with Allied fighters of its day, including the British jet-powered Gloster Meteor, it was much faster and better armed. One of the most advanced aviation designs in operational use during World War II, the Me 262 was used in a variety of roles, including light bomber, reconnaissance and even experimental night fighter versions. Me 262 pilots claimed a total of 542 Allied kills (although higher claims are sometimes made) against the loss of only about 100 Me 262s in the air. The Allies countered its potential effectiveness in the air by relentlessly attacking the aircraft on the ground and while they were taking off or landing. Maintenance problems and a lack of fuel during the deteriorating late-war situation also reduced the effectiveness of the aircraft as a fighting force. In the end, the Me 262 had a negligible impact on the course of the war as a result of its late introduction and the consequently small numbers that were deployed in operational service. The Me 262 influenced the designs of post-war aircraft such as the North American F-86 Sabre and Boeing B-47 Stratojet. MESSERSCHMITT Me-262 Role: Fighter aircraft Manufacturer: Messerschmitt First flight: 18 April 1941 with piston engine 18 July 1942 with jet engines Introduction: April 1944 Retired: 1945, Germany 1957, Czechoslovakia Primary users: Luftwaffe Czechoslovak Air Force (S-92) Number built: 1,430 After the end of the war, the Me 262 and other advanced German technologies were quickly swept up by the Americans (as part of the USAAF's Operation Lusty), British, and Soviets. Many Me 262s were found in readily-repairable condition and were confiscated. Both the Soviets and Americans desired the technology to serve as a basis for their own jet fighters. Mechanical device disclaimer: Every mechanical device has a certain life span. The day it leaves the factory, it becomes one day closer to its end date. When I find these devices, I plug them in, wind them up or put in a battery. If they buzz, whirr or seem like they're doing what they are supposed to be doing, I keep them for auction. At that point in time, I have NO IDEA of how old or how much use they have incurred. They may last a lifetime or fail the next time they are turned on. Therefore, I sell these as "Decorative or Ornamental purposes" only, not functional. Which may be referred to as "AS IS". Note: On some items, UPC symbols may have been removed for rebate purposes.
