Description: We are offering a framed limited edition print of "Mr. & Mrs." by Chaim Koppelman. This limited edition print is No. 3 of 30 (marked 3/30) and signed by Chaim Koppelman in pencil. **CONDITION** - the print is in Excellent Condition. It is in its original glass front frame - the frame has a slight separation at the upper corner joints where they meet - oddly it is only separated at the front side of the frame, the separation DOES NOT go through to the back of the frame, and so the frame is still solid. Not sure how that could have happened, but again, the separation does not go through to the back (see images). **NOTE** - Chaim Koppelman (1920-2009) - was an American artist and sculptor, president of the Society of American Graphic Artists (SAGA), and teacher of printmaking at the School of Visual Arts from 1959 to 2007. In 2004 he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award of Design by SAGA. Koppelman's work is represented in most major print collections in New York's Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the National Gallery, Smithsonian Institute, the Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C., and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Chaim Koppelman became a student of Aesthetic Realism, an artistic philosophy that began in 1941, that was based on first resolving the conflict of opposites within oneself, which then allowed the artist to show opposites in his or her work not as fighting one another in a contemptuous way, but by bringing the opposites together as one. **NOTE** - below we will show how we believe Koppelman accomplished this in "Mr. & Mrs." From what we have read, when he applied this philosophy in his own life, Chaim Koppelman said that his work became more imaginative and freer in concept. He learned that art does not arise from suffering or depression, but rather from the hope to respect and honestly like the world by seeing opposites as one. This is our take on "Mrs. & Mrs." What we see in this picture is a man and woman, still married after likely 50 or 60 years - living in many ways as "opposites" as men and women often do. We can see the bones of their legs through their clothing, slightly arthritic, like looking at an x-ray. Their skin is sagging and wrinkled, and the woman has the tell-tale protruding belly as older women tend to get. The man looks down, as if deep in thought, as the woman looks directly at him, perhaps wondering what he is feeling and thinking, and wishing he would share his thoughts with her. No two people can live together for so long without arguments and anger towards each other, likely with no hope of receiving understanding from the other one or hope of reconciliation; only to have the anger die down, and acceptance and forgiveness take its place. They know they need each other and realize that things work better if they accept each other as they are, despite their differences.
