Description: MORTEN E. SOLBERG (1935-2022) Original Painting on Board 1981Previously Owned by Bee Walsh Morten E. Solberg is acknowledged as a Master Artist. Before moving West in 1968, he previously worked for the American Greetings Corp. as an Art director for 9 years in Cleveland, Ohio. He began painting full time in 1970. While living in Southern California's Orange County, he had memberships in the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, the Society of Animal Artists, Wildlife Artists of the World and Knickerbocker Artists. His memberships and awards would take up a page of acknowledgments, so please research his acclaim on your own!This painting is similar to his famous, "Accept My Father's Spirit" and "Buffalo Brothers" paintings. American Indian history and culture were a special allure for Mort perhaps because his great grandmother was Native American.This work is signed on the board on back by Bee (Bernice Ada) Walsh, founder and president of the Fine Arts Institute from 1978-1981 and founding member of the Redlands Cultural Arts Commission. She was Art Coordinator at San Bernardino County Museum for 20 years. The painting is signed on the wood by "B. Walsh" "by Mort Solbert '81". The painting itself is signed vertically, "Solberg" in the lower LH corner. This painting was acquired at the same auction with a portrait by B. Walsh (the same signature as on this painting's back board). We believe the Solberg painting was once a gift to Bee Walsh and both were donated for auction by the previous Owner.Most of Mort Solberg's works are of wildlife and we have found very few with the Western Indian theme.
