Some of the songs on 'Open Space' are older than two years, over the course of time that have changed, condensed, and grown together with the band. Other songs arose, as it were, in one take during a session in the kitchen. The kitchen is still, in spite of the expanding instrumentation, a consistently favorite space for The Moonband to work in. In an extreme case. Three years in a tiny spaceship. Many may wonder why the lead vocals alternate throughout the album. The Moonband don't. Why should they? The two songwriters, Houston and Mondbasis, handle the majority of singing duties while being backed by Katerina Kirková. Meanwhile, Andy Armstrong plucks his large bass and Elena Rakete merrily slaps her old cardboard box, which once contained James Joyce's old diaries. 'Open Space' is not an album made to take the charts by storm.
