Description: Antique Cast Iron Miniature Sadiron With Miniature Trivet Having a Wooden Handle For Your Miniature Sadiron Collection Details Description: Antique miniature cast iron sadiron or sad iron and a miniature footed trivet. The sad iron is boat shaped and with decorated handle. The boat shaped iron is made of cast iron and has a detachable wooden handle. The iron is made of cast iron with a nicely polished surface on the bottom. The handle is shaped as a semi circle and made of hard wood with a worn out finish. The handle has the usual mechanism to release and insert it into the iron, consisting of a metal pull. The mechanism works very well and holds the iron solidly. The piece comes with a miniature footed trivet also made of cast iron. The trivet has four small feet to hold it off the surface. It has a nice design and fits the size of the iron very well. This piece was probably either a salesman sample or a child's toy. Please see photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Mid to late 1800s. Origin: USA. Size: The iron itself measures 4 3/4" by 2 1/8" and is 1 3/16" high. The entire piece 3 3/8" with the handle on. The trivet is 4 5/8" in total length, 2 3/16" and sits 3/8" above the surface. The iron and trivet together weigh over 1 pound. Maker: unknown. Marks: The bottom of the handle has the marks "6", "C", and "G" near the edge. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Just a very nice antique miniature Americana piece. Condition: Iron is in great shape given that it is over 100 years old. It has no breaks or repairs. The iron itself has discoloration and rust spots throughout. The usual finish on the wooden handle is worn out and has some roughness, but is intact. It has wear commensurate with the piece's age and use. The trivet has some rust, but is solid, beautiful and uncompromised. The entire piece has some minor scratches and nicks, which can be seen in the photos. Again, please see photos for additional condition information.
