Description: Miniature Green Feather Shell Edged Pearlware Cup Plate or Childs Bowl Davenport Staffordshire c 1825 This is a scarce or rare miniature pearlware cup plate or shallow bowl, originally made to be a toy dinner plate as part of a complete childs doll size dinner service. The tiny plate measures just under 3 inches in diameter with a ruggedly scalloped hand cut rim embellished with emerald green shell edge or distinct feather edge and an early rounded rimless bottom, finished with a pearlware glaze. The plate were made by Davenport, and is marked as such, in the Staffordshire region of England in the early 19th century. Feather edged and shell edged ironstone and earthenwares commonly in blue and in green were the most common English household wares found in homesites in colonial America. These tiny sizes are rarely found. Judging by its size, it is a well preserved example from an impeccably potted miniature dinner service set. The plate is in very good condition for its age. No chips cracks or repairs. Insignificant underglaze grit and other minor typical imperfections, as shown and original to the making, a bit of wear and roughening along the edge. Almost perfect, considering its age and probable use as a childs toy. Offered as is, a great example of a very rare early motif, a fine style and lovely sentimental gift for a favorite child. A pocket size work of art. Please email us if you have any questions or would like to see additional photos of this great example. Thank you for bidding!
