Some wear, no damage. • DISCUSSION: Amazing authentic Italian Murano art glass tutti-frutti geode bowl, designed by Antonio Da Ros and made circa the 1950s for Gino Cenedese & Son. This is an extraordinary piece! Always a conversation starter. To create such work requires extensive experience with difficult to achieve hot glass techniques refined in Venice for centuries. DETAILS: Three folded symetrically impressed sides, in a deep green ground, decorated with stunning zanfirico tutti-frutti, lace filigree latticino, sparkling 23k Gold and Fine Silver aventurine metallic flakes, and canework. Pontil scar/base was ground-flat and highly polished by the artist. It now displays the accumulated shelf-wear on the base–expected from 70-some years–other minor signs of wear to bottom, and bears the original worn studio label reading, "MADE IN Murano ITALY". Could be used as a candy dish, ashtray, or for purely decorative display. Excellent addition to a high-end art glass collection, or a very thoughtful gift! FULL CONDITION REPORT: We thoroughly inspected this piece and found no cracks, chips, flakes, bruises, hairlines, repairs or evidence of restoration can be seen or felt. Any natural indentations, bubbles, tool marks, carbon or ash particles, and/or any other natural textural features are all original to this piece and normal for hand blown glass. Wear to the base area is consistent with age. Original foil label well worn, but still legible. WATCH OUT! 🤨 ~ “There is today, by far, more FAKE Murano glass on the market than there is genuine!” ~ INVEST IN THE REAL THING: All genuine Murano art glass is made ONLY on the small island group of MURANO, in Venice Bay, Italy. The enclave's closely guarded formulas, techniques and traditions date back to the thirteenth century—1292. That, and an unparalleled reputation for artistry, quality and value helps give genuine Murano glass its exclusivity, collectibility and resultant appreciation factor. So, investing in authentic Murano glass enriches your collection, and never looses value. Establishing authenticity is of paramount importance, but difficult for the novice, because there is rampant abuse of the trademark name “Murano”. Before 1980, most Murano glass was only usually identified with impermanent paper/foil labels. So the name was easily co-opted by a variety of outside fraudulent glass makers. Post-1980, genuine Murano glass is much more carefully labeled and/or signed. Glass makers with famous Italian names, working in other countries still don't make the authentic 'Murano' glass that carries that genuine value. WATCH OUT FOR THESE: The most egregious Murano glass fraud is carried out by Chinese manufacturers, cranking out crude, cheap fakes and fraudulently labeling to pass them off as genuine. Be aware that many fakes have counterfeit Murano labels and may even say, 'Made in Italy'. Fake Brands: "Murano Cristalleria Ann Primrose”, "Murano Minchella Collection", "Murano Stile d'Art", "VEISES-MURANO”, or "Murano Glassware" are a few of the more common knock-off brands. They also commonly use mis-leading labels reading, “Vetro Eseguito Secondo La Tecnica Dei Maestri Di Murano” (Italian words meaning only: “Glass made according to the techniques of the masters of Murano”). They imply that they are made in Murano using their unique skills, which they ARE NOT. These attempts are blatantly fraudulent, injurious to consumers and highly illegal; but the scale of their fraud overwhelms most country's customs enforcement agencies, including that of the United States and even Italy! These manufacturers, importers, and sellers are trying to CHEAT YOU! Don’t let it happen. PROTECT YOURSELF: Try to buy from a reputable, knowledgeable dealer, or do your homework and research how to hopefully tell the difference! It takes examining and studying hundreds of examples to know for sure, but here is a quick clue: Fakes are cheap, crude, inferior work, that when labeled almost always say, "Murano" and sometimes even say, "Made in Italy". Murano work is always very high quality with very few bubbles, if any, unless intentional. Fakes often have random bubbles and seldom metallic inclusions (flakes/dust, a.k.a. aventurine). When they do, it is never real gold. Important is that most fakes are priced very low. We hope that helps. At OnMyWatch, we are experienced collectors who only offer genuine, vintage Murano art glass! Feel free to message us, with a photo or item number, for a our honest opinion. © onmywatch, 2022 _______________________________________________ BUYING MORE THAN ONE? Combined or Separate Shipping? None of our Murano or studio art glass is painted! All of it is colored and/or decorated using a chemical process that requires the use of a wide variety of elements and compounds to produce the final colorations. From the addition of to the melt a selection of substances to achieve the base color, to the application of salts, or oxides to the surface before re-heating in the kiln. They create iridescence, 'aurene' and other special surface coloration and/or fine textures that becomes a permanent part of the glass. The alchemy of hot glass is definitely a process that is part art, part chemistry and part an 1150°F dance of creative movement to achieve the complex works you'll see here. None of these techniques are learned quickly or easily, but they take years of honing the skills, formulas and recipes of the glass blowing process. And, glassblowing is rarely done solo! The artist, the "gaffer", is in charge, but it nearly always requires the teamwork of the gaffer's assistant(s) to successfully produce this most wonderful form of hot-glass artwork! PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY: Photos are considered part of the listing description. We try to give you as close to an "in-person" view as possible. That said, we shoot items in as best light and angle as shows their true beauty. Any unusual white or yellow spots you may perceive on a photo are usually glare, due to our photographic technique, unless otherwise noted. If necessary for accuracy, we color-correct photos to match the actual item to our computer monitor--yours may vary. We try to show complex pieces in a variety of lighting conditions in an effort to exhibit the full range of the piece's actual appearance. Should you desire additional shots or specific lighting conditions, or clarification on an image, please feel free to send a note through the eBay system! Photos are NOT representative of actual size. Please view all high-resolution photographs--at 100%. Any other object is included for scale only. Close-up photos will always tend to show and exaggerate minor defects. Please keep this in mind: defects seen at 100% resolution may not even be visible to the naked eye! If you have questions please ask before bidding! NORMAL WEAR: Vintage or antique items will undoubtedly show minor signs of normal wear and/or patina. When we find exceptional wear, manufacturer's defects, damage and/or repairs, they will ALWAYS be noted in the description. Minor usage marks will not be remarkable. Pontil scar artifacts, usually on base (looks like a divot), is the remains of the normal scar and is recognized by collectors to not be damage. OPINION: Description and condition statements are always our opinion, based on our combined knowledge, experience, and research. Statements regarding maker, age, origin, etc. particularly on unmarked pieces, should be evaluated and confirmed by you the buyer, as you are the final judge. Though we are avid collectors, we are not experts on each item. If you know something we have omitted or misstated, please contact us to share. We strive for 100% accuracy! Your help is always welcome and appreciated! Visit My eBay Store © onmywatch, 2022
