Description: Mimetite with Dolomite, Tsumeb Mine, Namibia FLOURESCENT! Pale tan masses of acicular to prismatic mimetite to 1 cm, some doubly terminated, with white to pastel-rose dolomite. The mimetite fluoresces a vibrant neon red-orange at 320 nm. Mindat identifies Tsumeb as “world-class” for its mimetite crystals. For this specimen, some of the mimetite crystals appear clipped. This is not at all unusual as so many Tsumeb pieces were smuggled out of the mine hidden in miner’s dungarees or boots. This does not detract from the presentation and in fact has the benefit of revealing cross-sectional zonation. Sourced directly from notable Tsumeb collector Clive Queit during the “go-go” days of the 1980s, almost forty years ago, this unusual and highly desirable specimen has been uncirculated in a private collection ever since. Size: 30 x 20 x 16 mm. REF: MF-12-57.
