Description: Here is a complicated piece with multiple textures and colors. On one side there are multiple shades of lilac to pink to periwinkle Smithsonite, and what is likely some pale blue-white Aragonite or Hydrozincite. Along the bottom is a range of deep red to fuschia colored Calcite that is mixed with bright green Willemite. At the top there is deep pink Calcite with a frosting of light blue Hydrozincite, while the back side features a little bit of everything, including some areas of brighter blue Hydrozincite. This is a good example of the fascinating mineral interactions seen in Miller Canyon material. Lighting Spectroline 15W short wave lamps with Hoya filter Reminder use a short wave UV light source to fluoresce this specimen I unpacked more rocks that I collected at Miller Canyon years ago. There is a mix of small to medium size pieces and I will be happy to combine shipping using Flat Rate Priority Mail boxes. I used to sell under the account name catenaya in case you recognize my listing format. The Nelly James prospect is an amazing source of fluorescent minerals and the most frequent combinations include orange/red Calcite and bright green Willemite. The next minerals you might see are blue Hydrozincite and Smithsonite that ranges from deep red to pink to violet. The colors, hues and patterns that can combine from some or all of these 4 minerals are what make Miller rocks special. A less common mineral that can also appear is yellow Powellite. All five of these minerals react with a short wave (254 nm) lamp, but Miller Canyon is also known for a deep orange to golden Sphalerite, which is a long wave (365 nm) fluorescent and phosphorescent mineral. A key thing to understand if you want to enjoy this hobby is that you will need to invest in a quality UV lamp with at least 10-15 Watts of power and a good filter if you want the rocks you collect to look as nice in person as they do in pictures online. Naturally, the more powerful the lamp(s), the brighter the rocks will fluoresce. Unfortunately, ‘black lights’ and inexpensive battery powered lights will not produce the results you want. Non-smoking home. Take a look at the pictures and be sure to check my other listings. Please read the following before placing a bid. BIDDING & PAYMENT: Please, serious buyers only.
