This badge in this format was in use from about the time of the Korean War in the 1950s until 1970, when it was a officially replaced by the subdued version of green on green, although the subdued type began phasing in about 1968. Worn above the left breast pocket of fatigue shirt and field jacket. The qualification for this award required that MOS-trained medical personnel be assigned or attached to an infantry, other combat arms, or combat aviation unit engaged in active ground combat, and not a nearby hospital or trauma center. For medical personnel the rank of Colonel and below. For those badges with a star above the wreath, it indicates a second award from a second war.
