Description: Stunning antique hand-painted 7" Japanese 'peanut dish" with raised 'moriage' painted dotted edge and hand-pulled handles, bas-relief peanuts in the bottom of the bowl. Dates to the early 1910s. Peanuts were first brought to Japan from Mexico in the 1870s and by this time had become a popular exotic treat inspiring a fancy snack bowl. The porcelain piece measures 7" and 9" across with handles. Approximately 1.75" deep. Bottom is stamped with the Morimura Bros hallmark, Hand Painted, Nippon. In beautiful antique condition. No chips or cracks. There are few small darker spots on the interior but it's only been gently cleaned for fear of damaging the paint. One outer underside edge has a light reddish-brown stain that looks like some of the brown coloration may have simply gotten dripped on the glaze prior to firing. I've not detected any other wear or dmamage. Photos are of the actual item that you will receive. Carefully packed and promptly shipped.
