Description: This is a set of short stories, plus a couple essays, written by Ben Bova in the early 1970's. These are "idea" stories more than traditional short stories: that is to say, each story explores one idea. In this way, the stories are almost like "thought experiments" in science fiction. Most of the stories do not get you involved with the characters or plot however. The best is probably "Foeman, Where do you Flee", about a small spaceship from earth investigating a nearly-barren planet of a possibly hostile race. The essay at the end of the book on the future of science was written in 1974, and it is wildly optimistic (alas) about the upcoming progress of science.
