Description: Maxfield Parrish’s “The Fisherman And The Genie” Original Matted and Period-Framed Color Illustration (facing page 54) from the 1909 ‘First Edition’ of Wiggin & Smith’s ‘The Arabian Nights’. The image is 6 1/2”x 5 1/4”. Outermost frame dimensions are 12”x 9 3/4”. The period frame is rustic (almost barn-boardish with obvious paint wear on the lips and sides, photos 5 & 6). I thought it worked well. Nicely matted (textured ecru, photo #9) and backed with 2-ply acid-free rag museum board, new hardware and dustcover, January, 2023 and ready to hang. Parrish’s MP signature in lower right ( photo #7). A nice cost/size alternative to the full size print. This was originally painted for and appeared as the color frontispiece for the April 7, 1906 issue of Colliers Magazine, issued as a print the same year, (as ‘History Of The Fisherman And The Genie’) and finally as this 1909 illustration in the Wiggin & Smith publication (and several subsequent editions). Note: The first 9 photos are taken without glass to avoid reflection/glare issues, photos 11 & 12, (excuse any reflection) after completion of project: the last photo, #13, the book itself, and tissue lining is shown for provenance only.
