MASSIVE Antique French Circus Follies Weeping Willow Ostrich Plume Headdress !!

Description: A MASSIVE and magnificent genuine antique circus headdress. Look at that huge weeping willow ostrich plume! Extra long, full and extra thick, this may be the biggest and most thick and lush willow plume I have ever seen in my 40 years of collecting. Has a heavy drape that cascades beautifully and has lots of bounce. Dates to the Edwardian to WWI era. The ends are incredibly thick with added plumes sewn onto the stem for real bounce and fullness. . Willow plumes are amazing, in that each strand of the plume has an added strand hand sewn to it's end with teensy tiny knots (can you imagine all that work?), to create a waterfall weeping willow effect. The stem is thick and sturdy, and the end is wrapped in an unusual textile, a fine metal gold mesh with hand sewn tiny sequins and metal trims, and rows of brown silk. I measured this 2 ways, laid flat and also hanging vertically. Laid flat, the flues of the plumes hang down 10", and the plume is 30" long. Hanging vertically, the plume is 32" long. I did not count the gold mesh end which is 5" long. I can see a lovely young bareback rider wearing this on her head as she stands atop her horse and rides around the ring, can't you? This could also easily have been worn on the Paris stage, or the Folies Bergere or Moulin Rouge. A wonderful find to display or wear. There was a time worn russet silk velvet hat pinned to this, but I am not sure if they go together, as the hat is light and the plume is thick and has weight to it. But I include it.
