Description: Mary Howitt (1799-1888) was an English poet. She is best known for her poem, The Spider and the Fly and for translating the works of the children's writer, Hans Christian Andersen. It is the story of a rebellious student at a girls' school who accuses two teachers of being lesbian. (Philadelphia, 1848). The book has seen better days, as it shows considerable wear: covers worn/rubbed and slightly canted, internal browning/foxing (the four plates especially so), ffep torn at top left, occasional page wrinkles. top corner spine edges of few pages stuck together, former owner's name on inside of front cover and on ffep.
