Description: This week I'm offering a variety of collectibles, including trading cards as well as comics. Marvel reached its peak of popularity and creativity during the Sixties and early Seventies. Bt the Eighties, any new reader would have a hard time keeping track of the complex interlocking continuities that Marvel had labored for years to maintain. Marvel came up with the idea of publishing a guide to their many-leveled storylines - remember this is before the advent of graphic novels or book length collections of reprints, much less the internet. Marvel's plan was to publish a twelve-part limited series of comics, covering the entire universe of storylines. The series, officially titled "The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe", was published in twelve monthly installments from January to December 1983, featuring impressive wraparound covers, and it consisted of alphabetical summaries of characters, ranging from heroes to villains to everything in between. Each page featured a really nice illustration as well as a lot of text. Put the series together, and you'd know what was going on in the entire spectrum of titles. Of course, it was out of date almost as soon as it was published...but it made for a great set of collectibles! Here I have Marvel Universe #1, covering the letter "A", dated January 1983! It's in near mint condition - see scans for condition. This would be a terrific addition to any collection!
