Her Victor career spanned three years. Harris signed an exclusive record contract with Columbia in 1920. She had more freedom in material for her recordings. Her singing style develops into a more stylized interpretation during this period. When she signed with Brunswick in 1922, the label featured her on the cover of their late year supplement. By this period her interpretations are further refined displaying her unique style of painting the songs with her voice. She emerged as one of the hottest female jazz singers of the age. Between 1931 and 1933, when she performed on such NBC radio shows as The Ipana Troubadors and Rudy Vallee's The Fleischmann's Yeast Hour, she was billed by NBC as "The Little Girl with the Big Voice”. In early 1931 she performed in London, returning for long engagements at the Café de Paris. In London she appeared in the musical Ever Green and broadcast on BBC radio. She continued to be a popular vaudeville and cabaret artist into the late 1930’s. She died in 1944 in a hotel fire caused by her smoking in bed. This CD includes her 3rd group of Brunswick & the last UK Columbia recordings when her song interpretations have become the most highly stylized and display her at her creative peak. ******************************************************************************************** 1- NO ONE - REC 4/1925 - BRUNSWICK 2836 2- WHEN YOU AND I WERE SEVENTEEN - REC 4/1925 - BRUNSWICK 2836 3- NOBODY’S USING IT NOW - REC 12/1929 - BRUNSWICK 4663 4- FUNNY, DEAR, WHAT LOVE CAN DO - REC 12/1929 - BRUNSWICK 4663 5- NOBODY’S SWEETHEART - REC 12/1929 - BRUNSWICK 4681 Your browser does not support the audio element. 6- MY FATE IS IN YOUR HANDS - REC 12/1929 - BRUNSWICK 4681 7- WASN’T IT NICE? - REC 5/1930 - BRUNSWICK 4806 8- YOU DO SOMETHING TO ME - REC 5/1930 - BRUNSWICK 4806 9- NOBODY CARES IF I’M BLUE - REC 6/1930 - BRUNSWICK 4812 10- I REMEMBER YOU FROM SOMEWHERE - REC 6/1930 - BRUNSWICK 4812 11- LITTLE WHITE LIES - REC 8/1930 - BRUNSWICK 4872 12- IF I COULD BE WITH YOU ONE HOUR - REC 8/1930 - BRUNSWICK 4872 Your browser does not support the audio element. 13- MY MAN FROM CAROLINE - REC 11/1930 - BRUNSWICK 4972 14- HE’S NOT WORTH YOUR TEARS - REC 11/1930 - BRUNSWICK 4972 15- WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE A WALK? - REC 3/1931 - COL DB-453 (UK) 16- MY CANARY HAS CIRCLES UNDER HIS EYES - REC 3/1931 - COL DB-453 (UK) 17- IS I IN LOVE?
