Description: Original circa 1907-1911 MARBLE'S Ideal Hunter with rare lignum vitae wood pommel and original sheath; VERY hard to find early type. This rare specimen is about 10-1/2" / 26.6 cm overall; the blade is about 7-7/8" / 15 cm. The blade has been professionally sharpened; it is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Marble's logo on ricasso is barely visible with most of the letters polished away. The handle is stacked leather washers with double-colored fiber and brass spacers, brass double-guard and lignum viate wood pommel with a large bronze nut. The handle is tight; all parts are solid with no play. A couple of light age-related cracks on the pommel are noted for accuracy. Original 1900th spear-point sheath is in poor condition - see photos. It's good for desplay only; the leather is frigile. This type was made under the MSA trade mark for just a few years from 1907 to 1911 in Gladstone, Michigan; this type is VERY hard to find in any shape or form, especially with the original sheath included. Marble's high-quality hunting knives had been popular in the States since 1898; their IDEAL model was probably the most popular line of hunting knives they ever made.
