Description: Mandevilla laxa is a vine or climber in the Apocynaceae family. Common names include Chilean Jasmine or White Star. Native to Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador. It is a deciduous vine in cooler climates. It is hardy to 10F. It can grow to 20 feet long with an abundant amount of fragrant flowers. This one can be grown inside with glass and unheated in full sun. It has received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in the U.K. The flowers are very fragrant in bloom from late spring until late summer. It prefers some compost once a year and will need something to grow up. Zones 8-11 Germination Sow seeds 1/4" deep and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 70-80F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
