A Historic Battle Obverse: The tense scene illustrated on the obverse is inspired by the Great Siege of Malta that occurred in 1565, which is considered to be the most influential battle in the history of the island nation. A Maltese Knight on the left challenges a knight representing the Ottoman Empire as the conflict rages on land and sea in the background.
