Description: Maitake / Hen of the Woods (Dancing Hens - G. frondosa) Mushroom Grow Bag DIFFICULTY: ADVANCED (Recommended for Experienced & Knowledgeable Growers) Fruiting Conditions: Temp: 60 - 74F, RH: 80 - 86%, CO2 < 1,000 ppm, Requires a light source Maitake is a slow-growing polypore mushroom that is very challenging to fruit and requires a longer incubation / pinning period than most other gourmet mushrooms. This commercially-viable strain is "Dancing Hens" and has known fruiting ability. We will provide a set of instructions, but advise that you utilize these alongside your own knowledge and research. Due to the primordia-forming process of maitake that begins very shortly after full colonization, we intentionally ship this species at an early stage to improve performance upon arrival. Otherwise, the young primordia would be easily damaged and may prevent the bag from fruiting. So to ensure the greatest performance and chance of success, please expect to receive a block that will require time to colonize after arrival. Bag weighs approximately 5.25 lbs (2.2 kg) with substrate made from a blend of hardwood sawdust and soy bean hulls. We will provide simple instructions for fruiting, but grower is responsible for providing a suitable fruiting environment for the bag to flourish. We guarantee the bag will arrive inoculated, viable*, free of contamination. Please note the following: 1. Due to an immense number of variables well-outside our control once the bag is in your hands (e.g. fruiting methods and environment), we cannot guarantee yield quantities. 2. Bag may arrive with in vitro fruits beginning to form; this is a normal sign of vigorous culture that is eager to fruit and will not significantly affect harvests. 3. Blocks may show signs of stress or cracking after shipping and should be left to rest for a few days before attempting to fruit. Any cracks will heal as the mycelium regrows. *4. Bags contain live mycelium that may experience great stress or die if they experience prolonged periods of extreme heat. So if you live in a climate where the bags are likely to be subjected to these conditions during transit or delivery, you may wish to consider ordering at a cooler time of year, or from a local vendor. We also reserve the right to cancel an order we believe is likely to not arrive in good condition. 5. "Ready to Fruit" is not a guarantee bag will arrive 100% colonized and able to fruit immediately upon arrival. It means that the bag is inoculated and needs no further action taken on your part to become fruitable, other than to wait for optimum colonization.
