Description: In May 1930, the Council of Trinity College, Cambridge, had to decide whether to renew Wittgenstein's research grant, They turned to Bertrand Russell for an assessment of the work Wittgenstein had been doing over the past year. His verdict: The theories contained in this new work are novel, very original and indubitably important. This book is Volume 1 of the "Vienna Edition" of Philiosophische Bermerkunger (Philosophical Remarks) which contains volumes I and II (Mss 105 and 106) of the Wittgenstein estate, which are in the manuscript collection of the Austrian National Library, Vienna (Cod. Ser. n. 22.018 and 22.019). The previously unpublished corpus of the "Philosophical Remarks" created in 1929/30 includes volumes I - IV (Mss 105 - 108), and the synopsis dictated by Wittgenstein (TS 208) .
