Description: 78 RPM Record set for learning MORSE CODE c1945[ Training 78 RPM Record Set ] International Morse code, A Course of Practical Instruction Author: Tuthill, Lt. Commander F. R. L., U.S.N.R. ; Battey, Lt. (J.G.) E. L., U. S.N.R. Title: [ Training 78 RPM Record Set ] International Morse code, A Course of Practical Instruction Publication: Manchester, New Hampshire and Long Island City, N. Insuline Corporation of America circa 1946 Description: 12 x 10 1/4 inch binder (oblong 4to ) with back cloth spine over textured paper boards gilt. Binder contains five double sided 78 RPM records (9 3/4 inch diameter) in sleeves. Instruction booklet is small 8vo, [4], [5]-32 pages. Stains on the covers, clean inside. Rear inside cover is an advertisement for various code sets manufactured by ICA (Insuline Corporation of America). Most record labels have come detached from the records, but all are present except for side 10. The condition of the discs are nice, but we have no way to qualify the sound quality having no 78 RPM record player in house to use for testing. Very Good. Various. These records contain 10 scientific lessons on how to conduct Morse Code on telegraph sets. The instruction is audio only, and requires the user to obtain simple telegraph keys for practice (which the company will happily supply). A nice throwback to the early days of communication when young men were busy in the garages and attics learning Morse code.Insuline Corporation of America manufactured radio, television, and other communications equipment. Early advertisements note "Since 1921" and this guide notes they are manufacturers of radio equipment for over a quarter of a century which would (all else being equal) date these to the mid 1940s. The marketing pitch includes listening in on ships talking to one another on the high seas with the chance to hear in real time thrilling evens like the call for help of a blazing vessel. Not all hype, it suggests that miners learn the code in the event they are trapped and can communicate with the outside world.
