Lot of 12 VINTAGE MCM Walter Erhard 1960s CHRISTMAS CARDS Imp Press NY Vigo Click images to enlarge Description These extremely rare greeting cards were designed in the 1960s by Walter Erhard. They are part of a much larger collection of vintage sales samples from this gifted textile designer, illustrator, and painter. According to his daughter one of his favorite ways of designing was with colored tissue paper. He was also an avid gardener, and botanical prints made their way into his art. He taught himself piano late in life. Erhard produced a range of Christmas cards under the name of 'IMP Press' from the late 1950's through the end of the 1960's. He won many awards and is recognised in many contemporary design manuals. Erhard is considered to be one of the most progressive designers of the day, and was a humanitarian as well as an artist. These 12 cards are approximately 4-5/8 x 6-1/4, a more standard card shape and size than the rest of the line, so are being posted together. Cards in this lot range from M-2101 to M-2104. All but one design was printed by Imp Press in White Plains, NY. M-2114, the bird and pear design, was printed in the USA by Vigo Publications. In 2002 Vigo purchased the assets of IMP Press and the rights to Erhard’s card lines. Vigo has since closed. Cards are in spectacular condition – no damage or stains. Some light surface wear can be seen along spines on a few cards, where color has rubbed off in a few places. Inside messages vary. Some are blank. As sales samples these did not come with envelopes.
