My FIL’s father spent much of his life on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, where he was an Engineer and manager of a copra factory. He also had extended family on Trinidad, so these coins probably came as a result of visits there in about 1972. Most coins have had very little circulation. They were simply stored in plastic baggies, in a nonsmoking, airconditioned house for the last 40 years. A few are discolored. Because of the large number of coins in this lot, I have only showed detailed photos of 5 coins, not necessarily the ones you will receive. These silver colored quarters are described in Numista as having a copper-nickel composition. This design was minted between 1966 and 1972, which coincidentally are the dates of all of these coins. I see these coins sold on eBay for $3 per coin. Numista rates them at less than a dollar each. See last photo for text and related information about this coin. The islands of Trinidad and Tobago form a republic in the south east Caribbean, close to the Venezuelan coast. They were a Spanish colony from the early 1500's until the British captured it in 1797. In 1962 it became independent, becoming a republic in 1976. Numista is based on a world coin catalog which grows thanks to member contributions. It offers many services for the numismatist such as an online collection managing system, tools to easily exchange with other collectors and a forum. Created in March 2007, the website is still administered by its founder Xavier. He is now helped by a team to verify and improve the catalog.
