Description: Born in 1923, Loretta Cain was a prominent New Mexico artist. She painted for nearly 70 years until she became blind. She also owned an art gallery in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1995, Cain moved to Silver City and opened another art gallery. Cain painted in the Impressionist style and used many colors in her works. Her subject matter was often Landscapes and scenes of everyday life in New Mexico. This original landscape painting features the red rocks for which Sedona, Arizona is known. Cain uses a large pallets of colors to illustrate the plants and trees that make up this desert landscape. The sunset sky is also highlighted by tones of blue and yellow. The artist created texture to further emphasize the brush in the foreground. This painting measures 20"x16" and is a breathtaking symphony of color.
