Description: Winner receives a drawing on paper by well listed French artist Gustave Poetzsch (1870-1950). The drawing depicts what appears to be a castle, but we are not sure of the exact location. The drawing is inscribed in the lower right corner, seen magnified in picture 5. The drawing has impeccable provenance from the estate of the artist. Gustave Poetzsch's studio remained untouched since his death. In 2017, the studio was being sold, and hidden behind a false wall were dozens of works by the artist found by renovators, unseen since World War II. The newly found art was sold by Gros and Delettrez in 2017, and each work found in the hoard was stamped by Gros and Delettrez. Several of the paintings sold at the sale achieved results of 10,000-20,000 euros. We were lucky enough to acquire a nice collection of works from this estate sale. The stamp from the original sale can be seen on the verso, magnified in picture 6. Being sold unframed, the drawing is in excellent condition. There is no major damage to mention. There are no rips, tears, repairs, foxing, toning, or creasing. To be safe we will say the edges show light wear. The piece is ready for framing. The drawing measures roughly 10" x 7". Below is some information about the artist, whose works are very rare to find outside of museums. Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have prior to bidding or making an offer. Thank you for checking out our listing. Gustave Poetzsch (1870-1950) was born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He was the husband of Marie-Louise Aulagne, renowned milliner of the Faubourg Saint-Honore. As he wanted to improve his technique, he went to Paris in 1892 and joined the Julian Academy, studying in the class of Gustave Moreau (1826-1898) near Henri Matisse, Charles Camoin, Paul de Frick and other future Fauves. He was a rich man and frequented the traditional bourgeois locations such as Deauville and Triuville which he painted often. He also had a home at Yssingeaux in the Haute Loire. From 1895, he exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon held by the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. In particular, he painted landscapes around Velay. The work of Gustave Poetzsch showed daily life scenes, landscapes and still lives. He possessed a house in Yssingeaux in the French department of Haute-Loire and painted there often. One can see today in Carnavalet Museum his drawings realized during the German defeat in 1944. A retrospective of his works took place in the Neufchatel's Museum of Fine Arts in 1950. All of our items have been stored in a temperature controlled environment with no pets or smoking allowed.
