Description: Fremont, John Charles and Charles Wentworth UphamLife Explorations and Public Services of John Charles Fremont. With IllustrationsBoston: Ticknor & Fields, 1856. Issued anonymously as a political biography for Fremont's run at the presidency, but written by him with major collaboration by Charles Wentworth Upham (1802-1875), a rather well-known politician of the time. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Not a particularly scarce book with Upham's name on the title page, but this is a First Printing copy without any indication of Upham's contribution, which is definitely uncommon. Greenish-brown cloth binding, blind stamped, with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 356 pages, with 12 pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. Very good except for spine wear and a library stamp on the fore edge and a number on the preface page (see photos)
