Description: LIEUT. GENL. ULYSSES S. GRANT STEREOVIEW BY J. GURNEY & SON. Up for auction is a stereoview of Lieutenant- General Ulysess S. Grant ( circa 1864 ) He was photographed and published by J. Gurney and Son , 5th Ave. cor. 16th, New York which is printed on the front of the mount. Also noted above the Gurney name in small embrossed print is the name G. W. Thorne 60 Nassau St. New York who was a merchant and distributor of this stereoview. The image of Grant is a 3/4 standing pose . He is looking directly looking at the photographer with his right arm at his side and his left hand slightly in his trousers pocket. His pose is very impressive as the new commander of all the armies fighting for the Union. The stereoview is in good condition considering its age. There is some soiling on the front and back of the mount with related corner edge wear .The back of the mount is blank. The left image of Grant is slightly faded caused by the processing of the albumin print not later damage. The image of Grant shows good clear three dimensionality. This J. Gurney stereoview of Grant would make a great addition a Civil War collector. Seller’s Note: Please carefully examine the photos to determine the condition of this stereoview.
