Description: After listing my pipe collection on eBay, it’s time to part with the favorites - my Ferndowns by Les Wood. FERNDOWN / LES WOOD CLASSIC REO FINISH BILLIARD ** (2 star size) ESTATE PIPE W/ ORIGINAL (NOT REPAIR) STERLING SILVER L&JS BAND AND LJS EBONITE STEM Excellent Condition It's a shame when a carver retires, but Les Wood has been around as long or longer than anyone and although he is still making some collaboration pipes I'm to understand, we will unfortunately never see Ferndown production again. This particular piece is now what I consider to be a "vintage" Les Wood / Ferndown. After he left Dunhill he made pipes under the name "L. Wood" and "Elwood" before creating his flagship Ferndown line. This classic Billiard is an absolute gem, I've always felt Les made fantastic smooth finish pipes! It feels amazing in hand, about a Group 5 with beautifully formed bowl, thick walls and a healthy chamber. The shank is adorned with a brilliant L&JS Sterling Silver band adding class - it is not a repair band! Stem is original Ebonite with fishtail bit and signature LJS logo. Finish is a lovely dark red-brown smooth finish. A phenomenal piece from the great Les Wood, this one simply will not disappoint!
