Very little is known about her but the investigative essay by Robert Humphrey in this book adds a new layer to her story. For example, her mother was a theater actor, and her brother was a published poet. She was in communication through letters with Leonard and they met at least once in London but at some point, she was committed to an insane asylum in London and lost all communication with Leonard as he was touring. Sadly, she one day went up the BBC building and jumped to her death. Leonard, back from the tour, saw all her letters and called his friends in London to go and check on her. They did and gave Leonard the sad news.The introduction by Ira Nadel, the first biographer of Cohen, places Daphne in the biography of Leonard and the influence that the two artists had on each other. Leonard Cohen's archive in Toronto consist of 13 boxes. Box #13 has been sealed on Cohen's order and not to be opened after 50 years of his death.
