Description: LED display replacement for King KX155 KX165 radios, DIY(do it yourself) This is a DIY (do it yourself) LED display replacement for King KX155 and KX165 NAV/COM radios. If you own a KX155 or KX165 radio that has a dying display and needs a new replacement display, this LED display will be your answer as the original “glass” display is no longer manufactured. Unlike the original “glass” display, this LED display uses LED technology which involves no high voltage driver, no gas-discharge lighting or eventual leaking-gas issues. The LED display functions just like the original – it automatically dims at night time operation and brightens up on day light for maximum visibility. DIY installation involves absolutely no modifications to your KX 155 165 radios. All you have to do is pull the old display out from its socket, and slide the new LED display into its place. And then connect the two power wires (long red wire and a short black with ring connector) to correct locations. DIY installation itself is simple enough – it should not take more than 30 min for most people. The installation is completely reversible – this means that you can always pull the new LED display out and put the original “glass” display back in the radio in case you are having issues with TSO or any other. Avoid finger prints on gold edge contacts of LED display. Please note Ebay will require signature confirmation at delivery. CAUTION If your KX155 or 165 has a display issue, this does not always mean a bad display and needs to be replaced. It could be internal display drive circuitry, power supply circuitry or something others causing the issue. In this case, the LED display won’t do any good. Make sure your KX155 165 has no other issues but the display itself. CAUTION The LED display has 21 edge contacts at bottom and every single one of these edge contacts must make a full contact with the corresponding display socket pins in order for it to function properly. Otherwise, the LED display will show missing segments, flashing numbers or no numbers at all. There is a chance that display socket pins have become weak and lost their spring tensions over the years. Make sure the display socket pins are in good physical shape. CAUTION This LED display is custom designed and has not been through any FAA certifications. It is mainly intended for experimental, none-airborne radios and some private aircraft owners and individuals who want to exercise ownership and would like to work on their own aircraft. If you would like to install it in a registered aircraft, we strongly suggest you check with proper authority first. Power cable harness This power cable harness allows you to power up kx 155 165 radio using a DC power supply on the bench. This is a very handy harness that enables you to check the LED display that you have just installed if it is working properly before you put the kx 155 165 radio back into the aircraft. This hardness is also very useful in troubleshooting if needed. All you have to do is plug the black socket into the bottom edge connector of the kx 155 165 radio on the back side. And then connect the red banana connector into the red socket of the DC power supply and black banana connector to black socket. The DC power supplies are readily available online, Amazon or local electronics stores, and they are not expensive.
