Description: Image of three members of what appears to be the Old Guard State Fencibles of Philadelphia. Produced in Philadelphia by Gilbert & Bacon. Late 19th Century. 8-3/8” x 5-1/4”. In fair condition, with light rubbing and wear along edges and corners. Images remains nicely preserved and easy to view. Tape and paper remnants on rear and along top edge, having been removed from an album. General age-related toning to board, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce piece produced by Gilbert & Bacon, which began operations in 1875. The Old Guard State Fencibles was a Philadelphia militia organization active from 1813 to 1981. Initially a military organization, as these men were likely members of, the group transitioned to being that of a social club in the early 20th Century, following the prohibition of independence batallions in Pennsylvania.
