Description: LARGE SMITHS 'SECTRIC' BAKELITE WALL CLOCK. 12" DIAL (1950's) A very rare, larger, Smiths mains operated wall clock made from Bakelite (predecessor to plastic, so environmentally friendly). The dial measures 12" (30cm) and the overall diameter is 14" (36cm). Driving motor is the Smiths Bijou (requires adjusting knob at base of clock to be pushed/released to start, as they were not self-starting). In almost perfect condition, especially when one considers that it is now around 65-70 years old. Keeps excellent time and quiet in operation. Dial has a lovely cream patina in keeping with its age (most unusual as they normally exhibit small rust spots). Has just been overhauled and rewired with 3.5 metres of period flex and a new plug.
