Description: Capistrano Mining Company "Your direct source for Sapphire Gravel Paydirt from the Sapphire Mines of Montana, Benitoite Ore from the Benitoite Gem Mine in San Benito County, CA,along with U.S. Mined Gemstones and Fine Mineral Specimens from the United States and Worldwide." ----------------------------------------------------------- Benitoite is one of the rarest gemstones on earth. Gem quality Benitoite is only found one place, a small area in San Benito County, CA. Benitoite can range in color from dark blue with violet to light blue, white to colorless. Benitoite fluoresces a beautiful blue color under shortwave ultra violet light. If it does not fluoresce this bright blue color, then it is not benitoite. ____________________________________ I cannot state this enough, be careful when purchasing any benitoite. Beware of the large Benitoite Gems being sold from India, they are fakes! Due to it's rarity and steep increases in price within the last few years for good quality benitoite gemstones, there are some dealers trying to sell other blue gemstones as benitoite. Be especially cautious when buying benitoite from Thailand and other countries outside of the U.S., or "certified" from these countries. If the stones purchased do turn out to be benitoite, then they rarely live up to their "certification". If you look at the photos of their stones, the photos are always color enhanced, the stones are lesser quality than listed, and the cut of the stones, well let's just say you'll get what you pay for. Remember that anyone can make up a "certificate" on a computer and say that a gemstone is certified. Just always do your research and "Let the Buyer Beware". __________________________________Rare Faceted Benitoite, 3.07 carats, with G.I.A. Lab Report This is one amazing benitoite gemstone. It comes to me on consignment and is from an old collection.Faceted benitoite gemstones of this size and clarity are very rarely available for sale on the open market. Since gem quality benitoite crystals rarely get large enough to cut even a clean 1/2 carat gemstone, having a 3.07 carat gemstone is a real rare prize. I hesitate using the words "Investment gemstone", however if you have followed benitoite over the past 10 years, you would have seen a rise in price year after year, up almost 400% on stones up to 1.25 carats and over 600% for larger stones. With increasing demand and diminishing supply for this single source gemstone, in my opinion, it can only continue to rise in price. Approx. Rarity: Only approximately 1% of all benitoite crystals found are facet grade. Of that 1%, only about 1% of the facet grade crystals recovered are large enough to cut even a eye clean 1/2 carat stone. Approximately less than .025 % of that number will cut a gemstone over 1 carat in weight. Of that number less than .025% will cut a stone over 2 carats let along 3 carats. Now maybe you can understand just how rare a Benitoite Gemstone of this quality truly is!This gem is considered eye clean, the clarity grade on this beautiful benitoite gemstone is VS ( Very Slightly ). It has a few slight natural veil inclusions, but in most instances due to it's cut, deep color saturation and dispersion, these cannot be seen by the unaided eye. Upon very close inspection or using a 10X loupe, you will be able to see these inclusions which actually help increase the dispersion within this well saturated gem, however do nothing to take away from the beauty of this amazing gem. The color is a beautiful benitoite deep blue with violet color. This benitoite shows its Pleochroism well, as it can appear slightly lighter or darker in color depending on the orientation when viewed, or look more violet depending on the lighting. If this already amazing gemstone was graded VVS or better, it would be priced much higher than the current asking price for this rare size beauty. Please look at all of the photos and video. My photos do not do this beauty justice, just check out that mirror like polish in the video. I guarantee every stone I sell.
