Large John Flexmore Original Watercolour "Rocky Range", Unframed

Description: “Rocky Range” Original watercolour from the artist’s estate. An original watercolour on paper by John Flexmore, of the rocky top or a range, probably around sunset, seen by the strong ochre and purple in both the rocks and the sky. The intricate detail shows the deep divisions between the rocks, possible canyons, with strong sunlight highlighting the far left. Signed and dated 1993 lower right. Outstanding original condition. John Flexmore, (1911 - 2004) was a well-known Melbourne artist, a watercolour specialist, mainly of representational landscapes. He studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne from 1930-37 under Bernard Hall, Charles Wheeler and W.B. McInnes. After war service he painted mostly watercolour landscapes, but he also painted several oil portraits under commission. In his early days, made a considerable number of linotype prints. He held biennial one-man shows at the Athenaeum Gallery, Melbourne until 1970. Flexmore’s works are very easy to live with, being very restful.
