This handmade German marble has a divided core within a clear matrix; dominated by delightful raspberry pink jelly fringes and stripes between teal and royal blue on a clean white backing. The outer line decoration in primrose yellow and white compliments this light, open, charming marble. The early-style pontil is finely faceted, and indicates that it was made between 1850 and 1880. Divided Core marbles make good additions to a collection of German antique varieties, and were a fundamental mainstay of marble production from the early glass factories of the time. They come in such a huge range of colour and style: typically with a number of split or divided vanes, often symmetrically arranged and with bright, contrasting colours or translucent jelly elements. Sometimes they have a filleted, ribbed or striped appearance to each vane adding extra interest; and usually they have an outer decorative layer nearer the surface. They are a much-loved and highly collected variety, their beautiful colours and fun design making for an eye-catching and intricate spectacle - highly varied, detailed and captivating.
