Description: Antique PURPLE VIOLETS Bowl/Lid HANDPAINTED PORCELAIN O&EG Royal Austria SIGNED LimogesGenuine circa late 1800s. This stunning piece is hand painted all over with incredibly detailed, lush purple violets and white lily of the valley flowers. Flowers are unfaded, the colors are very rich and lush. Background color is a creamy ivory and the inside of the bowl and underside of lid is pure whiteTrimmed with a thick band of genuine 22K matte gold finish at rim, on lid handle, and on 2 side handles. Gold has some light wear and fading normal for age and use. Wonderful angular shape to handles which was quite common at the turn of the CenturyThis piece is not only completely hand painted but is actually signed by the artist GEORGES in orange alongside a flower. Royal Austria made 'the best of the best' for the time, and frequently hired French artists on loan from Limoges to do the detail work on the flowers. The artist Georges was obviously a master painter. Size Approx. 8.5"Wide handle to handle, 5.25"Tall with lid on, 3 1/8"Tall without lid, 5"Across round opening of dish. Round base is 5.75". Marked on bottom with a fancy ribbon with the words HAND PAINTED within, and the O. E . & G. Royal Austria symbol. This is a gorgeous piece, the colors of the flowers and the shape and design are absolutely charming.Great for a collector. Quite rare.
