Description: Lane Cedar Chest Box Advertising BFJ Furniture Johnston City West Frankfort IL This is a vintage "Lane" cedar chest box that measures 9" x 4.5" x 4" tall. Inside the lid it advertises, " B.F.J Furniture". No key. There is a split on front and at bottom but item is intact and sturdy yet. The BFJ Furniture Company was founded in 1921 in Johnston City, Illinois by 3 Methodist Ministers (Barnett, Fisk and Jones) to raise funds for Methodist orphanage and Mckendree College. Later they opened several other stores in Southern Illinois. They all closed except for the one in West Frankfort, Illinois. The business was sold several times and I think it is in Mt. Vernon now. The city is not printed in chest perhaps to make it suit the various locations. This is a vintage pre-owned item with everyday wear, scuffs and scratches in functional condition.
