Description: La Specola Wax Venus Anatomical Medical Model Oddity Realism Museum Poster Italy La Specola is the oldest public museum in Europe, having started as the personal collection of the Medici family. It was opened to the public in 1775. The was anatomical models were very popular and the museum was attended by luminaries such as Goethe and Emperor Leopold who funded the museum. Of special interest are the wax anatomical Venuses, wax models of naked women posed in old-fashioned, semi-erotic poses, but with their rib cages and stomachs pulled open to the world. These gutted female forms were a favorite of the Marquis de Sade. Good pre-owned condition. There are pinpricks at the corners (photo 8), slight creasing along the edges (photos 4, 8) and sticker residue on the back. Measures about 26.75"L x 39"W. Ships from a smoke free, pet free home.
