Description: JEAN de la FONTAINE. Contes, Paris: Editions Nilsson, 1929. Tall octavo, pp. 236, 7 tipped-in color illustrations, brown morocco boards with gilt-stamped lettering and raised gilt devices to spine, two raised bands, stamped fleurons and rules to front and back panels, image of La Fontaine mounted into the front in a pieced-together gilt frame with a cupid theme, top edge tinted pink with gilt devices stamped in. Binder's signature is stamped in gilt in the rear panel, but I cannot read it. The illustrations are watercolors by the Belgian painter Maggy Monier, beautifully hand-colored. This is a gorgeous presentation of a popular edition that was originally released in paperback; text in French, printing La Fontaine's well-loved Tales. Condition of this book Minor flaking to the gilt on the spine, but overall fine.
