Description: L Straus & Sons LS&S Carlsbad Austria Fruit/Dessert Bowl (s) Pink Roses Blue Flowers Pink roses, blue flowers, green vines/leaves, scalloped edge, gold trim. These bowls have two slightly different floral designs in the center. Please see the pictures and read the details below, as their conditions are different. 5-1/8” diameter. No chips, cracks, or crazing. Center Design #1 (second picture): There is obvious wear to the gold on the edge. There are light scratches (some that may be discolored light brown) and some wear to the design, mainly in the center. May have faint gray or brown specks and small marks on the outside. Center Design #2 (fourth picture): As above but there is a small brown discolored glaze pit and small areas of wear from stacking. More details: The LS&S Carlsbad Austria backstamp was used by L Straus & Sons. A hand painted number is also present – please see the photos. L Straus & Sons was an American importer affiliated with Macy’s department store. The company had their own porcelain decorating factory in Carlsbad, then part of Austria. (Some trivia: Isidor, one of the Straus sons, went down with the Titanic.) Based on historical information, I am guessing these fruit/dessert bowls are pre-World War I.
