K2500 K2500S K2500X K2500XS K2500R K2500RS Contrast and backlight brightness, are both fully adjustable. Contrast, is controlled in the normal way. The ideal setting is around mid-way of the adjustment range on every K2500 variant. Optimal ! Backlight brightness can be adjusted via a small potentiometer on the display. Accessible from above, in between the display / interface PCB. To dim the backlight, turn the potentiometer clockwise to dim or anticlockwise to brighten. If required. (see listing pictures) This special custom display is a 2-piece design. Essential, to sort out the design faults of the old Tianma display, which through time, cause it to malfunction. The standard Tianma display is a flawed design. It should never have been used by Kurzweil in any of these instruments. Producing the display in 2-pieces, means all the critical display dimensions, can be fully optomised. This is important to maintain consistent bezel pressure during the entire lifespan of the display. 20+ years. The malfunctioning, associated with the standard Tianma display, will NOT happen again. Manufacturing this way, is more complicated, time consuming and expensive. A lot of additional engineering was required, which ofcourse, like everything at the shop, has been done to the highest possible standards. For example, all the mounting points and fasteners are beautiful machined brass, knurled and passivated. NO cheap off the shelf fasteners / parts were used in the production of this display. The K2500 Series has a different interface than all the other Kurzweil instruments. This one has a straight 20way interface. So, every K2500 display i ship, will include the required detachable cable so the display will Plug N Play correctly. Cables and connectors are 'keyed' to prevent incorrect connection. Installation of this display is very simple ! Its connected by its 20way cable only ! (cable is included with the display) Nothing else is required ! Plug N Play ! Note ! The existing back panel brightness control will NOT work with an LED backlit display. It's ballast circuit is designed to work with CCFL via (AC) voltage potential principals. (Cold Cathode Florescent Lamp) The cathodes in CCFL lamps heat up toaround 200 degrees. This is one of the design flaws of the old display, this heat source, sat inside the display, basically, cooking it. It's one of the reasons why the old display, eventually, malfunctions. Upgrading to LED backlight, solves the CCFL heat problems, as LED's are much more efficient, but the existing (AC) backlight dimmer circuit for the old display is not compatible with a modern LED display. Instead, You must use the dimmer built into the LED display. It sits in-between the display and mounting board. (see listing pictures) During display installation, adjust with a small screwdriver. Simply turn (continuously) clockwise to dim, one or two turns, If the backlight is too bright for your taste. Couple of turns, will take the edge of the brightness. The potentiometer is only a 2k. As a result, the adjustment is smooth/linear not glitchy.
