Description: This palm is believed to be a climate adapted variant of Trachycarpus fortunei. It was introduced into the Kumaon region of India in the late 1800's. Today large, seed bearing specimens can be found in the Himalayan resort town of Nainital, India where the elevation is over 6,800 feet. In Europe they have become extremely popular due to their low maintenance requirements and excellent vigor under cooler climates. Cold hardiness is said to be around 5 F. They tend to have more narrow leaflets and should be watered at regular intervals during the growing season. They grow well in a variety of soils including clay, loam, and organic sandy soils. Poorly drained and saturated spots should be avoided. What you are buying is a well rooted seedling, grown in a one gallon pot, similar to the palm in the first photo. Plant height is 14 inches minimum. The second photo is one of the parent trees. We ship on Mondays and Tuesdays following payment. No international orders please.
