Description: During the late 1870s, a china-decorating fervor swept the United States that persisted into the early twentieth century. Thousands of women employed paintbrushes and china paints and decorated ceramic objects for their homes, as gifts, and for sale. An excellent description of the movement is available from The Metropolitan Museum of Art: https://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/woch/hd_woch.htm#:~:text=During%20the%20late%201870s%2C%20a,as%20gifts%2C%20and%20for%20sale. This 1915 plate, Signed R.H. '15, is an example of that home-based craft. The original porcelain plate from Krautheim Selb Bavaria, also marked, was given a green background with delicate purple flowers. Who R.H. was or where the plate was painted remain unknown. The plate is in excellent condition, surprising for its age. It clearly was protected as a cabinet plate. There are no chips, cracks, crazing, repairs or discoloration. There is one very small mark on the right gilt handle (see photo) which can, perhaps, be removed. Shipping within continental USA.
